The Writer
I write to be read, I write to be understood, I write to be calm. For my whole life, words have been my conduit to a sense of connection to the people around me, and the situations I experience. For me, I discovered the power of storytelling as a child, writing letters to family abroad to connect with loved ones, and keeping a journal for emotional regulation. As an adult, I continue that connection with community and with myself, by creating short, interconnected essays that pack a punch, sharing the ones that might make a difference.
There is no such thing as storytelling without an audience. So, the first thing I do is to know who it is that I’m writing for, and then I craft my words so that my audience will understand my message. Whether it’s a grants officer, a future employer, a crowd of a thousand, my family, or just myself, it’s important to be authentic, thought-provoking and message-driven.
